Gentle Vet Animal Hospital, Dr. Ehud Sela: Perianal Mass in an older spayed female dog

A 13 yrs old spayed female Basset Hound was presented for a rapid growing perianal mass.

The patient other than the mass is in great shape and all blood work was normal. FNB of the mass was most consistent with a benign Adenoma.

These tumors are usually male hormone dependent and occur often in male dogs that are not fixed.

They are unusual in the female spayed dog population.

The patient will have the mass removed within 72 hours as it disturbs her and the owner, and it will be sent for a complete biopsy of the entire mass.

The patient's male hormone levels are elevated so further blood tests will be done to further evaluate the disease process.

We expect the patient's quality of life to improve greatly post surgery an event that will make both her and her owner very happy.

PS: The patient is now eight months post surgery and doing well with no recurrence. The patient is on a regiment of female dog hormone orally to reduce the incidence of recurrence. Both dog and owner are delighted with the outcome.

Gentle Vet Animal Hospital, Dr. Ehud Sela: Feline Asthma

Feline Asthma is a serious and insidious disease of cats, that if goes untreated can be at times fatal.

The disease is most often manifested with coughing, shortness of breath and labored breathing.

In advanced and severe cases respiratory failure and a secondary cardiac failure can ensue.

The disease usually can be diagnosed with the aid of chest x-rays.

Most cats once diagnosed can be greatly helped with the appropriate use of prescribed medications.

As the disease often manifests itself early in its process with a cough, it's recommended that a

coughing cat should be immediately examined by a veterinarian.

Please don't hesitate contacting our office if you have any further questions about Feline Asthma or

any other health concerns you might have regarding your pets' health.

Gentle Vet Animal Hospital, Dr. Ehud Sela: Cryosurgery for a nose lesion in an older cat.

A 14 yrs old cat with a small ulcerating lesion on the nose was presented for possible surgery.

Due to the cat's age, low body weight and moderate renal disease she was considered a higher risk patient for general anesthesia.

The cat has had a malignant tumor removed from the same location a few years back.

The Cryosurgery procedure was done at our hospital as an outpatient procedure with the owner present.

The cat tolerated wonderfully a few cycles of quick freeze and slow thaw of the lesion.

The cat was released home with the owner and the prognosis for the lesion to regress is considered good, as it was treated at an early stage.
