Gentle Vet Animal Hospital, Dr. Ehud Sela: Our cats’ behavior can give us many clues as to their health status.

Our cats’ behavior can give us many clues as to their health status.

If our feline friend alters some of his/hers regular daily behavior, it might indicate a change that needs to be evaluated by the veterinarian.

For example, if the cat usually greets us at the door and suddenly stops, or hides, or sleeps more than usual, it could be an early sign of a health problem.

As our feline friends can’t express what’s going on with our human words, these changes of behavior can be an important clue that they might not be feeling well.

If a cat runs away fast from the litter box, after using it, or cries while using it, or does not use it, it can be a sign of discomfort that needs to be quickly evaluated.

Of course any changes in appetite and water consumption—increased or decreased—are also valuable indicators to their health status.

In conclusion: our feline friends are creatures of habits—just like us, often—and changes in habits and daily behavior should be quickly evaluated as they can indicate a problem that early diagnosis can cure.

Please do not hesitate contacting us if you have any questions regarding your pets’ health.
